November Theatre is a century-old landmark in the Broad Street Commercial Historic District, originally known as the Empire Theatre. It was advanced for its time: air conditioned – by fans blowing over blocks of ice! A mere three years later, the Empire was converted to film and vaudeville under a new name, The Strand. A fire closed the venue 1927; it returned as the Booker T Theatre 1933-1974. In 1977 the landmark was reborn as The Empire. In 2012 the theater was renamed Sara Belle and Neil November Theatre to honor the couple’s $2 million restoration grant.
