Navy Hill is the name given to a redevelopment scheme for the area east of the Greater Richmond Convention Center, which would encompass at least two dormant Richmond landmarks: Richmond Coliseum and Richmond Light Infantry Blues Armory.
Blues Armory, one-time home of the Richmond Light Infantry Blues, was converted to a shopping mall and food court after the National Guard unit disbanded. The upper-floor drill hall space became offices. The landmark building has been closed since 2002, though the city has been attempting to redevelop the “Navy Hill” area for years.
Richmond / Richmond Coliseum, once Virginia’s largest sports arena, is (at this writing) closed. The site seems ripe for development, located adjacent to the Greater Richmond Convention Center, Blues Armory, Richmond Marriott hotel, and ample parking.
