The Shriners built Altria Theater in 1927 as the Acca Temple Shrine. The City of Richmond bought the building in 1940 and converted it for municipal use. The theater, renamed The Mosque or Mosque Theater, became Landmark Theater in 1995. Tobacco company Altria donated $10 million for renovations in 2014, at which time the venue took its current name.
