Hartford / Bushnell Park

Claimed to be the oldest publicly funded park in the United States, and part of the East Coast Greenway. The Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch commemorates Civil War combatants. Other points of interest include the Corning Fountain, carousel, and Spanish-American War memorial. Reverend Horace Bushnell conceived the park, and asked Hartford native Frederick Law Olmsted to design it. Alas, Olmsted was busy working on New York’s Central Park and Springfield, Massachusetts’ Forest Park; he recommended Jacob Weidenmann.
