Cambridge, MA

Cambridge, Massachusetts is so closely tied to Boston that one might forget that it’s an independent city. Boston guidebooks (like the two listed below) routinely cover Cambridge within their pages. Even Boston’s subway system has annexed Cambridge: The Red Line neatly bisects the city. (MBTA, I discovered, does not stand for Metropolitan Boston Transit Authority; it’s Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.)

It’s easy to explore Cambridge without a car; mass transit is plentiful and the neighborhoods are quite walkable. There is soooo much to see, pace yourself. The primary attractions (for me, at least) are the so photogenic campuses of Harvard and MIT.
