Cincinnati, aka Cincy, aka Queen City, is Ohio’s largest city – though not the capital (which is Columbus). Like Rome, it’s a city of seven hills: Mount Adams, Walnut Hills, Mount Auburn, Vine Street Hill, College Hill, Fairmount, and Mount Harrison. Those hills may be a challenge to climb, but the views are every bit worth the effort. (Price Hill is ascended via Mt. Hope Avenue, a road so steep that when I was a kid we joked, “I hope the car can make it!”)
I have fond memories of my grandmother’s elegant home at the end of Bushnell Street. From her back porch you could see the whole city, and (in 1958) hear the calliopes of riverboats on the Ohio River. The home and gardens, alas, are no more; they’ve been replaced by a three-story apartment complex.
